Over the last 26 years, Maya had always been fascinated by the small details — the texture of fabric, the shimmer of beads, and the scent of freshly cut wood. Growing up in a small town, she often watched her grandmother weave baskets and stitch vibrant quilts by hand. Those quiet afternoons became the seed of her lifelong passion for handmade crafts.
Today, Maya’s brand, “Handmade by Heart,” is known for its authenticity and sustainability. She continues to craft every item with the same love she felt as a child sitting beside her grandmother — proving that handmade art is more than a product; it’s a story woven into every thread and stroke.
Friends and family became her first customers, and word spread through social media about her unique, handcrafted treasures.
Reflecting on the journey, Tasha says,
“After finishing college, Maya realized she wanted to create something that carried meaning — something made with love, not machines. She started experimenting with clay jewelry, macramé wall hangings, and hand-painted coasters in her tiny studio apartment. Every piece told a story — a mix of tradition, patience, and creativity.

"The Crafting was born to empower vulnerable communities to come out of exploitation, and move to self-sustainability and dignity by offering western design, skill training, and access to the international market.
Surrounded by fast-paced life and mass-produced goods, she felt something was missing — the human touch. During one quiet weekend, she picked up an old set of craft tools from her grandmother’s trunk and began creating small handmade trinkets: clay earrings, resin keychains, and hand-painted bookmarks."
The journey wasn’t easy. Maya faced doubts, sleepless nights, and financial worries. There were days when sales were slow and materials were expensive. Friends questioned her decision to leave a stable job for “just crafts.”
Through the years, we have been a mosaic of nationalities, giftings, personalities and people with struggles who collectively have experienced victories. We couldn’t be more grateful for where we have come from and we are excited about where we are going. There is always more to do in the fight against poverty and injustice

Katherine , a creative and philanthropist, resides in North India. Her adult children, Katiera and Caleb, who grew up in India are pursuing careers in Social Work, working with vulnerable people in Canada.
